Maria Manuel Oliveira

(n. 1956)

Completed her Architecture degree at the Escola Superior de Belas Artes do Porto in 1985. She is a principal researcher at the Laboratory of Landscapes, Heritage, and Territory (Lab2PT) and has been a faculty member at the School of Architecture, University of Minho, since 1997, where she teaches and develops architectural and urban design projects within the school’s research center. Throughout her career, she has taught at the University of Angola and the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Porto, practiced as an architect, and worked in public institutions in the field of urban planning. Her research and publications focus on urban landscape design and architectural heritage intervention. Her current interests lie in the study of abandoned or degraded buildings and vacant lots in urban contexts, which are critical to collective urban memory. She is currently involved in research projects on these themes in East African countries.
